September Guest Designer

WOW! Seriously where did August go??? I really can't believe it's nearly September...I know I say this every month but really August just swooshed on by way to fast!

Before I introduce our fabulous September guest designer I'd like to say thank you to our August guest Julie for sharing all her fabulous YNS creations with us! It was a delight getting to know Julie and I can't wait for you to see her super cute project she made for YNS Challenge #50 this Wednesday!

Please give a warm YNS welcome to Ashley!!! I had the pleasure of meeting Ashley at the Winter CHA Show this past January, she is such a sweet and wonderful person so I am delighted to have her join the YNS family and look forward to seeing all her fabulous YNS projects!

Here is an adorable card she made featuring Miya from China and little bit about Ashley in her own words...

My name is Ashley N Newell and I've been stamping for just over 4 years now. I have an awesome husband and 2 adorable children (Brady age 4 and Parker age 2.) I work for Whisker Graphics as their Social Media and Design Team Coordinator. I also write articles for Through the Craftroom Door Magazine. I thoroughly love designing and sharing projects with people and hope to do this for the rest of my life. Creating is my passion as well as my outlet and I'm so blessed to have found it!

I'm so excited to be designing for Your Next Stamp this month! I've loved the designs since the very beginning and am thrilled to be able to be a part of such a talented team for this month!

Welcome to YNS Ashley!!!

Rainbows and Happiness along with a Stamped By... stamp for the back of your cards

I took all the comments and mixed them up and drew a name at random and our winner of this fabulous and fun prize pack is...
Virgo5 with this comment...
I totally agree with signing the back of cards, my problem is I want it to be a the perfect whimsical signature...but I can't decide what that is! So I'm waiting til I figure it out!!!! Should I include my email in case someone wants to order cards? What if my email changes!!!! What if I never do and I have unsigned cards everywhere! So many decisions!

I love the little YNS for the back & the place to sign, great idea!

Congrats!!! Email me to claim your prize!!!

Happy Stamping!

Pizza Box Tutorial by Maureen Wong

Hi everybody! It's Maureen here and I have a tutorial for you today! It's a little Make & Take that I designed for a past ScrapFest show, but since not many people got to make it, I thought some people might be interested in a tutorial for it. Since it was meant to be a M&T, it's pretty simple, but you could easily fancy it up by adding more layers to the belly band or embellishments of your choice.

Pizza Box Surprise Gift Card Holder
Materials needed:
Sturdy patterned paper or cardstock for box: 4 ½" x 9 ½"
PP or CS for belly band and insert: 1 ½" x 9, 3 7/16" x 3 15/16"
White CS: 3 7/16" x 2 5/16" (for writing a note), 3 pieces 1 ½" x 3 7/16" and to stamp bag images 2" piece of ribbon

A Good Friend YNS stamp set

Score board
¾" circle punch
Adhesive (regular and foam)
Coloring medium of choice

1) Take piece for box and place short edge along top of scoring board.
Score at ½" and 4". Turn piece and score at ½", 4 ½", 5", 9 ½". Cut on
all score marks on each long edge as shown in pen (8 in all):

2) Lightly mark center of one short edge of the piece. Using the ¾"
circle punch, punch a notch where you marked (shown above).

3) Adhere short flaps inside box and you should have this:

4) Take the insert piece and place 4" side along top of scoring board.
Score at 1 ½". Before folding, stamp "true friend" image inside the
smaller top area and color as desired. Now fold back and forth along
score line a couple times to make sure it bends easily.

5) Take piece of ribbon and lightly fold in half. Tape to back of bottom
edge of insert (in this picture and the one below, the insert is upside

6) Write a note to the recipient and stick piece onto back of bottom of
insert. Take the 3 small white pieces and stick to the back of the top
of the insert. (These will help the insert lie flat even when the gift
card is underneath the bottom portion.)

7) Place adhesive on back of top portion ONLY and adhere inside box bottom.

8) Decorate bottom of insert as desired. (I stuck the 2 smaller bags
directly to the insert and then popped the big bag up on foam tape.)

9) Lift up insert flap and place gift card underneath. Surprise! :)

10) Take piece for the belly band and make light marks on the back and
score at the following: 2 ⅜", 2 15/16", 6 ½", 7 1/16". Before folding,
stamp the "good friend" sentiment in the middle section of the band and
color as desired.

11) Fold band around box and adhere it to itself (NOT to the box!),
making sure that the band isn't too tight so it can slip on and off
easily. And your box is done! Yay!

FINAL NOTE: I know a lot of the insert measurements are in 16ths of an
inch - if it's easier to think about it, they're all based on the pieces
being slightly smaller than 3 ½" x 4". So, you could always cut the
pieces the full size, and then just slice off a 16th of an inch wherever
necessary to make the pieces fit!

I hope you like my project and that you'll give it a try! If you do,
please leave a comment so we can check it out!

CCC #1

Hello Friends!

I'm so excited to finally introduce you to our first and only (for now) Special Event Design Team member...the super talented, hilarious and oh so smart Carole Burrage! Carole will be hijacking posting on the YNS blog the 18th day of every month - how cool is that?! If you've never stopped by her own personal blog Mother's Little Helper than you are missing out on some amazing talent and ton of laughs! I was introduced to Carole's blog well over a year ago by my sister and instantly thought to myself...'Karen, this is a gal you need to get to know' so I stalked read her blog for many many months before ever saying anything and the moment I emailed her there was an instant connection and I'm so happy to now call her a friend and fabulous member of the YNS family. Please give her a warm welcome and be sure to leave a comment on her posts because not only will she entertain you but there will be YNS prizes up for grabs every month too!!! WHOOT WHOOT!!!

Ok so without further ado...take it away Carole!

Welcome to the very first Carole’s Creative Commotion blog post! When Karen approached me with the idea of giving me the YNS Blog for one day each month TO DO WHATEVER I WANT TO WITH IT, I leapt at this unheard-of-opportunity. Then I wondered if she was off her meds/on a bender/cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. But who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth? If Karen wants to give me this platform and let me expound on whatever topic flits into my fool head, I’m going to accept it with gratitude.

Thanks, Karen!

Now that we’re done with the niceties, shall we get started?

Here’s what I’m thinking about today: taking ownership of and pride in your art. That’s the big theme. And, looking at the little picture: I want you to start signing the backs of your cards.

Let me explain where I’m coming from. I’ve been active in the stamping industry and online stamping community for several years now and one of the happy results of that involvement is that I’ve developed great friendships with some amazing stampers. A benefit of friendships with stampers? Happy mail! I’ve received so many gorgeous cards over the years, I could open a stamp art gallery. No joke.

But you know what drives me crazier than I accused Karen of being, earlier? When people don’t sign their work! Seriously – most of the cards I receive lack any indication of who created them. I think that’s a crying shame. Do you think Picasso or Matisse would fail to sign their work? If they did, it’d sure fetch a lot less on the open market. Think about it: anything, from art to literature to baseball cards, is worth more when it bears the artist’s signature or stamp of authenticity. If you don’t believe me, just watch an episode of Antiques Roadshow.

Now, some of you may be thinking, “Well, that’s real art. Stamping isn’t art. It’s just my little hobby…” No, no, no, no! I disagree (in case you didn’t catch my drift from the four previous ‘no’s’). By typing “What is art?” into Google, the first definition it provides is this:

The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

I think we can all agree that creating handcrafted greeting cards out of paper, ink, and glue falls under this definition. Is stamping what some might consider ‘fine art’? Maybe not. But it’s as close as I’m going to get, and I’m proud of my small contributions towards making this world a cuter place.

Thus, I want to encourage you to embrace your art and on the back of your card, to make some sort of declaration that indicates that YOU took the time and made the effort to create the little masterpiece the recipient is fortunate enough to hold in his or her hands. Let me show you what I mean. Here’s the front of my card, using YNS’s adorable new Rainbows and Happiness set:

And here’s the back:

I made my mark using YNS’s “Stamped By…” stamp, which is on sale for less than $1.00! (Seriously, is there anything these days that costs less than a dollar?!) I love a stamp like this, and I have several that feature the copyrights of the different stamp companies whose images I use. They typically ‘fit’ with the look and feel of my card, and they let the recipient know where I got the images, in case they’re interested.

Anyway, I hope I’ve given you a little food for thought. Leave a comment and tell me if signing your cards is something you already do, will do from now on, or are opposed to and why. Let’s discuss! And just to provide you with an incentive, the oh-so-generous and lovely Karen is sponsoring a giveaway of Rainbows & Happiness and Stamped By... to one lucky commenter. Here's a photo of the prize package for you visual learners:

Karen will announce the winner on August 25th, so that gives you a full week to give me your thoughts.
Okay, chickadees, I look forward to hearing from you. And remember to mark you calendars – we have a date on the 18th of each month!

XO - Carole

You should have all your puzzle pieces but before you submit your puzzle I'd like to share my hop projects with you!

First off I made a bright and cheery birthday card! I inked up Heather R.'s Make a Wish stamp set and added a little shine with my glitter pen and a little sparkle by adding some YNS Sparkly Flat Backs and YNS Glittered Skittles. Check out my floating flames! LOL I put it all together and forgot the twine to connect the flame to the candle! OOPS!

Next up is my new release project. I decided to ink up Fhiona's new set Rainbows and Happiness for my card. I got out my sparkly Twinkling H20's {which I totally heart} and then added some YNS Sparkly Flat Backs for some extra bling. The sentiment is stamped with my all time favorite stamp pad Calypso and the white cardstock is Cryogen White which has a built in shimmer. Oh and we must not forget the fuzz I added to the clouds - messy stuff to work with but so FUN! It's hard to see all the sparkle in the photo but this card definitely twinkles!

Kerri Michaud
Designer & Assistant DT Coordinator
Hello! My name is Kerri Michaud and I’m a stay at home mom to 3 kiddos ages 7, 5, and 2! We currently live in Apopka, Florida which is just outside of Orlando. I got into stamping about 2 years ago after I had my first Stampin’ Up party. I was instantly hooked LOL! Before then I had dabbled in scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, quilting, jewelry making, and whatever other crafty whims that came my way. I think I have found my true passion in stamping and card making though! I also LOVE to make altered items and little gift boxes, etc. I am soooo excited and honored to be part of the Senior DT for Your Next Stamp! I ADORE these darling images and just love working with Karen and the rest of the DT!

Hi my name is Peggy Toole and I am a stay at home mom to 3 great boys who are 11, 12 and 15 and have a wonderful husband who is very understanding about my stamping obsession! We live in the Shuswap, part of the Northern Okanagan in beautiful British Columbia. I have been stamping seriously now for about 3 years and love this hobby and all the wonderful people I've been lucky enough to meet so far! I am thrilled to be part of the Your Next Stamp design team and to be working with such talented women.

Hi everybody! My name is Maureen and I live in sunny Hawaii with my husband, 2 boys and 3 dogs. When I'm not paper crafting, you can find me reading, watching TV, or playing on the computer. I'm so excited to be designing for Your Next Stamp and I hope I can inspire you at least a little with what I create!

Angel Rivera

Angel Rivera
Designer
My name is Angel and I’ve been stamping for over 8 years! I also scrapbook from time to time, but prefer making cards or other little projects. I try to escape to my craft room as often as my 3 boys (ages 16, 12 and 10) and all of their extra activities allow! My husband of 19 years, Derek, is supportive of my crafty time because he knows it makes me happy. I also work full time with a wealth management company and am a licensed life and health insurance agent. I’m so excited to be working with Karen and ALL of the YNS crew!

Bonnie Kohane

Bonnie Kohane
Designer
I am a second generation SAHM, which i call SAHGM. ("G" for grandma). I have been watching my grandkids for 7 yrs. I am also going through a second generation of crafting, i have a scrapbook that is almost 60yrs old filled with all of my favorite memories. I've been featured in Stamper's Sampler..more of an artsy card magazine...but my style tends to be "cute". Card crafting isn't the only thing i like to do, if i am not working on cards, you'd see me working at my sewing machine, crocheting or trying any new craft technique out there.. i love a challenge..which brings me to say..i can't wait to see what you all create for the YNS challenges!

Brianna Loeffelbein

Brianna Loeffelbein
Designer
Hello my name is Brianna also know as Happy Scrapper in the crafting world. I am 26 years old, I am married to a wonderful supportive husband of four years and we have an amazing two year old son Jayden. We live in a small northen town called Brainerd which is located in the state of Minnesota. For the past 7 years, I have been working for our Local UPS Store as store manager and I just love it. When I am not working I am spending time with my family and friends and of course crafting! I have been passionate about crafting my entire life. My main love of course, is Paper Crafting, specifically card making. I also like to sew, bead and crochet and teach others how to show thier creative sides. I am so honored and privileged to be joining such and awesome group of ladies here at YNS, I can’t wait to get started and share all my creations with you!!

Deborah Anton

Deborah Anton
Designer
My name is Deborah Anton and I am a stay at home mom to 11 year old twin boys and a wife of 12 years to a patient, loving, and awesome Army Officer. I am originally from California but currently live in Tennessee. I keep pretty busy just on the home-front with my active boys playing different sports, moving every few years, and volunteering with the Army. But in the little "me" time I do get, I love to do anything crafty and hide in my craft room!! I started out 11 years ago designing and creating jewelry for 2 large retailers, which led me to having my own business; until 8 years ago when I met designer paper and glue. A new love relation began! I am so excited to be part of the YNS team and work alongside so many talented ladies!

Jen Roach

Jen Roach
Designer
My name is Jennifer and I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and 3 year old daughter. I'm a scientist by day and a paper crafter by night ---or really just about any free time I have including my lunch breaks at work!!

I started out in paper crafting back in about 2002 when my Mom and I took a scrapbooking class together. A few years later I decided to give card making a try and it's been my passion ever since. I'm the world's slowest scrapbooker so the instant gratification of card making really won me over. Over the years I have used more and more stamping in my designs and I love learning and trying new techniques and styles.

I would probably define myself as a "scrappy stamper". I *LOVE* patterned paper and most of my cards have lots of it with added layered on embellishments and textures. My cards may not be easy to mail but boy are they pretty!!

Other than crafting, I love to play tennis as you can probably tell from my blog address:

Julie Elak

Julie Elak
Designer
Hi, I am Julie Elak, aka "The Last Minute Crafter". My days are kept busy working full time and running after my children. I use almost every free minute to craft, my purse is typically full of copics and a pari of scissors. I began stamping well over 10 years ago, but my love for paper crafting found renewed energy once I discovered the online community in 2009. I started a blog on a whim and am so happy I did. I have made many friendships and found so much support and encouragement on-line.

Laura Nehring

Laura Nehring
Designer
My name is Laura, and I am SO excited and honored to be joining the Your Next Stamp Team! I am a former preschool/kindergarten teacher, now stay at home mom to 3 energetic kiddos - 5 year old twin girls, and a 4 year old boy. I met my husband the year I graduated from highschool, and we've been together ever since. We are enjoying life in sunny southern California, where we were both born and raised.

I started scrapbooking in 2006 when I was pregnant with my girls, which led me to stamping and cardmaking a few years later. The point of no return was when I purchased my first Copic marker at a local scrapbook expo 2 years ago... now I'm hooked! I LOVE to color, and it's how I unwind at the end of a busy day! My card making style is fairly clean and simple... I like for the images to be the focus of my creations, so I don't do a lot of embellishing. In addition to Copics, I am also completely obsessed with Kraft Cardstock, and polka dots! I am really looking forward to being a part the YNS team!

Nicole Nastali

Nicole Nastali
Designer
Hi! I’m a former kindergarten teacher who is now a stay at home mom to my 2 little girls. My hubby is supportive of all my crafty pursuits and that says a lot about him because I love all kinds of crafts from making headbands, bows, & designing dresses to making party favors and now cards!! I am a newcomer on the stamping scene and have met so many wonderful crafting friends already thanks to the common joy of card making and coloring with Copic markers. I would color all day long if my family would let me…!! Lol! My favorite colors are the blue greens (affectionately called the BG’s) and I try to sneak them into every card I make!! I love to get crafty with my girls (ages 8 & 6) and let them color images right along side me. It’s a fun hobby for us all to share!! A sleepover stamp from YNS was one of my very first stamp purchases & I’ve been in love with Fhiona & friends ever since!! I’m thrilled to be joining the YNS Team with this group of fabulously talented ladies & I can’t wait to share my cards with you!!

I'm a former Administrative Assistant turned stay-at-home mom to a very special young lady. I've been crafting since I was a young child, and when I became a SAHM I turned to crafting to stay busy. Staying busy making cards, altering items, and just having fun with paper is an amazing hobby that I truly fell in love with. I'm very grateful that I have a husband that supports me, that my son loves seeing my creations as well, and my special young lady enjoys getting into my crafts. I truly love the challenge of making something beautiful with the various products available to the crafting industry. That is why I am super excited to share my projects featuring the amazing YNS Digital Stamps, and I look forward to seeing your creations as well!

I was borne and grew up in a small town Canada. I started paper crafting in the fall of 2007, when I saw a stamping catalogue one of my friends had laying around her home. I took one look through the catalogue and was so excited because I knew I had found my favorite hobby at last! Making Cards. I’m a natural born artist, I completed a graphic arts program in college and worked as an artist for several years a life time ago. I currently work as an office administrator in Toronto where I live with my dog Georgie. Though I absolutely love my job, this hobby is my creative outlet. I believe, the cards I make are like little works of art, expressed from the heart. I find that when I’m making a card for a specific person, I am thinking about that person through the whole process. And that in itself can be the gift.

Hey Wendy McGaffey here with a lil about me.....I have been happily married for 27 years... I have 3 grown children and 3 furbabies and I love crafting...☺...I usually have several projects on the go from crocheting a stuffed teddy bear to sewing a memory quilt, but honestly I have to say that paper crafting and making cards is number one on my list...I started out scrapbooking but fell in LOVE with stamps and then became slightly addicted to coloring with Copics .....I am having a ton of fun on the YNS team and absolutely love creating with their products.
